چکیده

in many statistical systems, a type of survey called “sampling over time” is common, which repeats continuously over time. one method of sampling over time is panel survey. panel survey is a method in which a “fixed sample” is contacted during different waves. the most important challenge in a panel survey is debility in providing response from some sample units and having non-response that usually causes bias or in some cases leads to increasing variance of estimates. in addition to item nonresponse, in panel surveys, also there is another type of nonresponse called “wave nonresponse”. wave nonresponse occurs when one or more waves of panel data are missing for a unit that has provided data for at least one wave. a particular aspect of wave nonresponse is attrition in which sampling unit is excluded from the survey. weighting is a method of reducing undesirable effects of a wave nonresponse. calibration estimator is one of the weighting methods. in this article after introducing primary concepts of panel survey, types of missingness in panel surveys and missing mechanisms, calibration estimators is introduced as a method of weighting missing data. then by using of british household panel survey data, calibration estimator method is compared with generalized regression estimator with respect to different criteria such as absolute relative bias, mean square error and estimated asymptotic relative efficiency. the findings of the study show that when correlation between two waves is high and missing mechanism is at random, calibration estimator method has better performance than some other methods.

Bandwidth Choice for Bias Estimators in Dynamic Nonlinear Panel Models

This paper considers bandwidth selection for spectral density estimators based on panel data sets. The spectral densities of greatest interest in this paper are the ones that appear in the bias expression for …xed e¤ects estimators in nonlinear dynamic panel models obtained by Hahn and Kuersteiner. The bias estimation problem is di¤erent from the usual HAC estimation problem because the need fo...

Bias Reduction and Elimination with Kernel Estimators

with Kernel Estimators Stephan R. Sain1 De ember 8, 2000 SUMMARY: A great deal of resear h has fo used on improving the bias properties of kernel estimators. One proposal involves removing the restri tion of non-negativity on the kernel to onstru t \higher-order" kernels that eliminate additional terms in the Taylor's series expansion of the bias. This paper onsiders an alternative that uses a ...

Bias Reduction for Bayesian and Frequentist Estimators

We show that in parametric likelihood models the first order bias in the posterior mode and the posterior mean can be removed using objective Bayesian priors. These bias-reducing priors are defined as the solution to a set of differential equations which may not be available in closed form. We provide a simple and tractable data dependent prior that solves the differential equations asymptotica...

Bias Corrections for Two-Step Fixed Effects Panel Data Estimators

This paper introduces bias-corrected estimators for nonlinear panel data models with both time invariant and time varying heterogeneity. These models include systems of equations with limited dependent variables and unobserved individual effects, and sample selection models with unobserved individual effects. Our two-step approach first estimates the reduced form by fixed effects procedures to ...

Weighting Adjustments for Panel Nonresponse

1 Summary Although similar to weighting for unit nonresponse in cross-sectional surveys, adjustment for panel non-response needs to incorporate information about nonrespondents collected in the early waves of the panel. We review different weighting adjustments for panel nonresponse and discuss methods for incorporating complex survey design variables into the weighting adjustments. We propose ...

Nonresponse Rates and Nonresponse Bias In Household Surveys

Many surveys of the U.S. household population are experiencing higher refusal rates. Nonresponse can, but need not, induce nonresponse bias in survey estimates. Recent empirical findings illustrate cases when the linkage between nonresponse rates and nonresponse biases is absent. Despite this, professional standards continue to urge high response rates. Statistical expressions of nonresponse bi...
